Human Brain, still a lot of it not used!

Humans only use 10% of their **brain capacity **is nothing more than a recurring myth.

As for Encoding

Its where information needs to be translated from either reading, watching, hearing or any other mean that human can take as an input then to set it in the memory. There are three main ways in which information can be encoded (changed):

  • Visual (picture)
  • Acoustic (sound)
  • Semantic (meaning)

**Now the biggest challenge after encoding **that people face is moving memories from short term memory storage to Long term one.

Short-term memory (STM) is the second stage of the multi-store memory model proposed by the Atkinson-Shiffrin. The duration of STM seems to be between 15 and 30 seconds, and the capacity about 7 items.

Usualy to make a memory stick better, you need to concentrate more on that element in your STM, and there’s no 1 answer to this.  but, people found things that help improving this, such as:

  • Involving more sensors in memorizing, where the more input your body gets on a certain element, it helps to make your memory sticks more, cause your brain finds it as a priority, due to many related things associated with the element.
  • Visualizing text data, by taking the text data and trying to associate it with a vivid image in your mind, you’re helping your memory to store this element.
  • Coercing data to a different easier to remember model. I’ve been doing this for quite a while now, after i read this book from Audible.com: Memory Improvement: How to Improve Your Memory in Just 30 Days This book helps you to understand the idea of having a mind palace, and trying to translate numbers, people names, texts into images, characters and stories that can be remembered directly. I found it really effective, and I always memorize my account numbers, card numbers, IDs and people’s names (its really worth checking).
  • ….
  • There are a lot of other methods out there, but mainly they all focus on adding more data to the context of the element you’re trying to store.
