What is Among Us, and Why so Popular?

That game that took everyone’s attention!

What is it

It’s basically a game where you rooms where players can join up to 10 players per group.

There are 2 types of characters that exist in the game:

• Crew member: who does tasks and tries to land the ship where it’s supposed to go
• Imposters: those imposters can be aliens or something else depending on the theme of the game. but their main job is to stop the crew from doing their job and reaching where they want by killing them.

The goal of the game is:

• For imposters to kill all crew members
• or for Crew members to finish their tasks before they’re all killed, or to find the imposters

How is it played

Crew members are given some simple tasks which they do by pressing a button and stuff like that (nothing complicated).

Every once in a while there’s a big button in the middle of the map if you press it then there would be a meeting where everyone can provide an argument and vote on who’s the imposter.

Now comes the big question!

Why is it so popular?

Ease of access (Online)

This type of game has existed long ago with many namings (mafia, Angels&deamons,..) but they all required 1 person to lead the game, organize it and gather enough people to play with and they have to be in the same place.

You already see 1 of the reasons why it’s popular.

Evilness inside us

We all like to be that imposter because it gives that feeling of control, evil-doing, and being able to be the one that everyone is giving attention to or discussing.

Social Side

The game leverages the fact that people like to interact with each other, and that’s what chatting and meeting are giving.

Whenever there’s a meeting everyone enjoys the discussion partially because they know they’re interacting with other human beings.

Detective Inside us

The crew members have to find who’s the imposter. this is a really interesting task for people, which basically played the detective role (a dream of every person)

Sense of completion

In order to win as well, you need to complete the tasks before you’re killed. that will cause a sense of achievement and completion which people crave for.

Lastly the most important one : The trending part gives the feeling that you’re left out so you need to get on the ship.
